Carlos Santana was taken to the hospital ahead of his San Antonio show.

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, a representative for Santana, 77, confirmed that the guitarist will postpone his shows scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23 after being treated for dehydration and testing positive for COVID.

Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management and a representative for Santana, said, "It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight's show in San Antonio has been postponed. Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight's show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration. Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action."

I just want to see the greats before they are retired or gone, even if they arent as good as they were 40 to 50 years ago.

I saw Paul McCartney with The Beatles back in 1966 and then again in 2019 and he was every bit as good as he was in 1966, in fact he did a three hour show compared to the 40 minute show he did with The Beatles.

The FIRST record contract the artist typically does not make much at all. The record company makes all the money.
The artist make money on touring and Merch(t shirts, etc).

When they get to be an established artist the contracts change. Then the artist gets more because the record company knows they will sell and they have to give them a percentage.

A lot of this came out with John Fogerty. Creedence Clearwater Revival did not make squat even though the had several huge hits off of their first album. Fogerty did not make any money until years later when he came out as a single artist.

He was on my bucket list, and a few years back he was scheduled to play nearby. He had an incident a few days before, I think in Michigan, but he said he was better on the day of our show. So we went. The opening act was Earth, Wind, and Fire. At the break, someone from the venue came out and told us that he was sick again, to please leave, and that they would reschedule for in a few weeks.

The band did play about a month later, and the show was excellent. His wife, Cindy, is the drummer, and she does an amazing drum solo. If you can get to one of his concerts, DO IT!! These classics aren’t getting any younger!

I have not seen Santana in concert.

Probably seen him twice in the past 10 years. He's awesome with a great band. Only downside is he generally gets in some anti-conservative political statements. Last time I saw him his last song was a cover of Get Together by The Youngbloods.

The reason aging rockers still tour is they love the attention and people really want to see them cause there are almost no new good rock bands anymore.

Two reasons They like money and they like touring

Knowing musicians I'd say one thing, they love performing and playing their music.

That’s not his daughter on the drums. Cindy is his wife. Maybe 10 or so years younger than he is.

“still don’t get why artists in their 70’s and 80’s(Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney) still tour.”

I’m sure money has something to do with it. Also, there is a huge dopamine high that performers get playing live. It’s not work to them like most of us are familiar with.

P.S. Jagger and McConnell aren’t quite the same age. 81 and 83, but your point still stands.

He can be quite the social justice warrior.

Yep, both concerts I've been at he brought up something preachy, otherwise it was great music and great musical talent.

Lol! Cocaine Mitch! And I believe Mick has been clean for decades. Except for the blood transfusions.

WHO denounced the COVID lab origination stating most likely bat to human transmission.

When Jagger had his heart valve replacement, I understand that the cardiologist said that it was because of wear and tear. Said he had the heart in the condition of a young tri-athlete, not a 76 year old man.

I’ve seen him twice in concert, and I quite agree! The second time was right after he had his operation, in Chicago.

“WHO and CDC denounced the PCR test.”

Don’t lie.

CDC: “Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), including PCR tests, are more likely to detect the virus than antigen tests. NAATs tests are the “gold standard” for COVID-19 tests.”
