If cleanliness is next to godliness, then NYC’s basically heaven on Earth (kinda).
Despite its vermin, trash-lined streets and only-in-New York smells, the Big Apple did not rank as one of the top 10 “Dirtiest Cities in America.”
It’s a miracle on 34th Street — and it’s not even Christmas.
“From clean drinking water to sewage disposal, littered streets to missed garbage pick-ups, we analyzed 12.3 million sanitation-related 311 complaints in a series of U.S. cities to reveal which metropolises need to clean up their act,” wrote study authors from HouseFresh, an indoor air quality imprint.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
My ex-wife’s parents emigrated from Glasgow to NYC just after WWII. They arrived in NYC in the middle of a garbage strike, with mountains of trash piled up on the curbs. One look around, and the mother wanted to get right back on the ship and return to Scotland.
I remember going to the Aquarium many years ago and walked around without issue. Today that’s where a lot of crime is and I wouldn’t go back and walk around today for 50k.
So, where is the list?
From the study (# of sanitary complaints/100k population):
1 Baltimore 47,295
2 Sacramento 34,186
3 Charlotte 31.112
4 Los Angeles 21,616
5 Memphis 17,408
6 Boston 10,252
7 San Antonio 8,929
8 Kansas City 8,874
9 Buffalo 8509
10 Dallas 8,382
11 Pittsburgh 7,854
12 Nashville 7,703
13 Chicago 7,376
14 Houston 6,275
15 Oakland 6,139
16 New Orleans 5,295
17 New York 3,728
18 Miami 3.284
19 San Francisco 2.411
20 Austin 2,245
21 Philadelphia 2,144
22 Riverside 1,609
23 Milwaukee 309
Baltimore was going to be my guess, with San FranFeces being my backup.
It was in an embedded link. https://housefresh.com/the-dirtiest-cities-in-america/
I think they don’t even call in issues in SF anymore. It’s just a given.
Thanks. San Antonio? I must have missed the bad parts.
“”I remember going to the Aquarium””
WHERE?
If I have my way I will never set foot in a major American city again.
“From the study (# of sanitary complaints/100k population):”
Not a very objective “study”. Maybe people in really filthy places have gotten so used to it they don’t bother complaining anymore.
And 23 of the 23 dirtiest cities in America are run by democrat party mayors.
Have been run by democrat party mayors and democrat party cabals since WWII.
1800 years of democrat party efficiency and waste and corruption.
Sanitation complaints is a rotten metric to judge relative cleanliness. Residents of San Francisco know better than to bother.
Bigger cities are almost always run by Democrats, it seems.
Yeah, that was a surprise to me. I bet it can’t begin to compare to lots of other places.
> I think they don’t even call in issues in SF anymore. <
That’s an important point. There’s a big Democrat-run city not too far from me. The police have announced that they will no longer respond to minor crimes.
So why bother reporting one?
People stop reporting. Then the mayor can brag that crime is “down”.
It’s pathetic.
I avoid big cities as much as possible, too. I never feel safe in them. I keep my SA on high and it’s just not fun to live like that. I’m much more accustomed to the Mayberry way of life.
Bingo.
