And here I thought that Chris Christie
and his friends only roamed New Jersey.

Well when it erupts again, maybe it will take out dems as well as rhinos. Too bad it can’t be selective though. If there are pits of ancient rhinos, I would think there should be more and with different animals.

Nebraska is RINO Central.

Wouldn’t this eventual Rhino extinction benefit the American Bison population?

Thanks Red Badger.

Ancient rhinos in Nebraska lived in large local herds and died slowly from volcanic ashfall, not sudden disaster.
Yeah, right, one of those gradual ashfalls. That's an idiotic sentence from some unreconstructed uniformitarian gradualist ninny.
Extinction isn't gradual. Decline is gradual but not on a straight line. Extinction is instantaneous. Sounds like a fussy semantic argument. So is the reaction to the moronic phrase "very unique" one sees and hears from time to time.

Article says they probably starved to death.
No, they died a horrible suffering death trying to breathe with lungs inflamed from pumice ash dust clogging their airways.
Had they starved to death they wouldn’t be in one huge pile.........

Yup, it’s a typical death assemblage. 20 million years ago in Africa a group (tribe?) of Proconsul were wiped out and buried by a volcanic eruption, and no one had any problem with that being basically instantaneous. :^)

”Ancient rhinos in Nebraska lived in large local herds and died slowly from volcanic ashfall, not sudden disaster.” Pretty sure a Yellowstone eruption qualifies as a sudden disaster in anyone’s book. Sure, it probably took a few days for the volcanic ash (glass) to shred their lungs, but they did die relatively quickly.

Interesting how the science repeatedly supports the premise that the geology of this part of the continent is responsible for die-offs of species at regular intervals from multiple events, in this case the Yellowstone caldera.
Just imagine had Yellowstone erupted anywhere 12-1600 and what would have been encountered by explorers in the Westward Expansion.
At some point in time in the near future, the US is truly screwed. Assuredly. But I’d sure like to know what the government is doing in Yellowstone under a tight veil of secrecy supported by armed security...
