Two Mexican nationals in the U.S. on nonimmigrant visas were arrested during a traffic stop in Colorado last month while transporting 180,000 rounds of ammunition, authorities said Wednesday.
Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis, 41, and Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira, 24, both of Mexico, were pulled over in Canon City on March 26, the U.S. Attorney’s Office – District of Colorado said in a news release.

It’s hard to know from the article exactly what kind of ammo they had. If “.308” is right, that’s high-powered ammo suitable for hunting with common bolt-action rifles, and semiautomatic battle rifles like the FN-FAL, M-14 H&K G3 and AR-10 variants. The “7.62” suggests 7.62 X 39mm, intermediate-power ammo commonly used in AK-47 variant rifles. Perhaps the .308 is synonymous with the military designation of 7.62 NATO ammo. However, it’s a virtual certainty all those rounds weren’t intended for peaceful, legitimate purposes.

In August of 2024, in The coming terrorist attacks, I warned we’re virtually certain to see terrorist attacks in America, not only from the thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of Islamist terrorists who strolled across our wide-open borders but from Mexican cartels. With the cartel’s major source of income now severely curtailed, they probably have revenge on their minds and Islamists are always plotting our destruction. It’s likely Islamists are also working with cartels on things like ammo resupply. Cartels may be smart enough not to openly attack America, and if so, why not take advantage of supplying Islamist fanatics in ways that might not lead back to the cartels

A case of 1,000 .308 with 150 gr bullets weighs about 30 lbs. This van load of 180 cases would weigh over 5,000 lbs. They were probably up to no good.
In before, “Meh, that’s a day at the range”.
Probably for the cartels. The alternative is much worse. The feds will easily trace the supplier, and I’m guessing they were arrested, or at least interviewed, before this story was released.
Actually, it’s more like 55 lbs per 1000 for 7.62 - 32 lbs is about right for 5.56NATO.
That’s just under 10,000 lbs. These guys were breaking the law just by how mach they were transporting and how much they exceeded GVW of the van.
180,000 rounds of 7.62 is a lot of firepower
Ammo is impossible to get in Mexico.
.
Cartels just want to destroy Other Cartels
and threats to There Bussiness.
Amigo.
150 boxes of .308 at 1,000 rounds per box is 150,000 rounds. I went to my bulk ammo dealer and that round goes for about 80 cents each at a bulk rate. That’s about $120,000 before sales tax, if they paid it.
I bet they could double their money easy in Mexico.
In some rifles 7.62 x 51 and .308 are interchangeable. My civilian M14 will fire both but the manufacturer recommends not using .308 as it may slam fire due to slightly different shaped casings.
My Chinese made M14 does just fine with either.
I just use the cheapest ammo.
If it comes to the point where I’m shooting at local cops
won’t really matter anyway.
Sounds like a set up for a movie like “Red Dawn” (1984).
A cargo van is probably rated to carry 4000-5000 lb of cargo, so the van was probably riding very low on squished suspensions.
Plenty enough to wear out an M1A.
Should have bought a FAL :-)
FALs are rally hard to find; but I did find a Century FAL rebuild from JG. Second biggest mistake I ever made.
The Springfield M1A is a great big "OK", but, oh well.
Please help me with my agony.
