The release of the video evidence could determine if Karmelo Anthony's self-defense claims are substantiated.
Authorities have reportedly collected video evidence of the confrontation between two Texas teens that resulted in a fatal stabbing during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2.
Karmelo Anthony, 17, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Austin Metcalf, 17. Police said Anthony allegedly confessed to the killing on claims of self-defense. The release of the video evidence could be key material for the outcome of the case.
Dominique Alexander of the Next Generation Action Network, a civil rights organization, informed the public during a press conference on April 8 that investigators "have collected video" of the fatal confrontation and urged the community to stop spreading misinformation about the case online.
Anthony has been held in custody on a $1 million bail for allegedly stabbing Metcalf to death during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium. According to a police report, Metcalf asked Anthony to leave a tent set up for Metcalf's track team. Anthony reportedly refused to leave the tent, which sparked a confrontation between the pair, who were on opposing teams. As the altercation escalated, Anthony allegedly reached into his bag, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Metcalf to death. Authorities said the defendant confessed to the killing in an interview and claimed he stabbed Metcalf in an act of self-defense, as indicated in the report.
One witness said Metcalf touched Anthony, while another said he grabbed Anthony during the confrontation, according to the report.
The incident has since garnered national attention not only due to the tragic loss of a young athlete but also because the case has sparked discussions about race and fairness, as Anthony is black and Metcalf is white. Both families have received substantial financial support through fundraisers.
Earlier this week, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said Anthony will not face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole because he allegedly committed the crime as a juvenile. Defenders of Anthony have claimed he is a victim of systemic racism and demanded for his bail to be lowered.
Anthony is scheduled to appear in court on April 12 at 10 am.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Dominique Alexander was the guy who spread the misinformation that Kyle Rittenhouse shot people in the back. Why should we care what he thinks?
Also the left: Metcalf touching Karmelo means Karmelo was justified in stabbing Metcalf!!!
>
One witness said Metcalf touched Anthony, while another said he grabbed Anthony during the confrontation, according to the report.

Neither justifies STABBING another, let alone the ability to claim ‘self-defense’
I wonder if someone is working on an AI video showing Metcalf punching and kicking Anthony a couple times, trying to "prove" it was self defense.
He took a weapon to a track meet.
He should be tried as an adult.
This is a perfect example of what the left claims is the school to prison train. That kid will spend his entire miserable life in some institution being someone’s little b!tch. Not because of “systemic racism”, or any leftist trope, but for his actions. He had no business in the opposing team’s tent. He had no business carrying a weapon in there. He was obviously looking for trouble, and he found it.
This case is a slow motion train wreck, the defendants team is working furiously to taint the potential jury pool, paint the victim as a racist who committed assault and “had it coming to him”. The white-hating media is all in trying to stir the pot and soon there will be so much AI generated imagery that it will be impossible to separate the truth from the gross fiction.
Either of which rates getting stabbed in the heart, of course.
If they charged him with that, then the video must not be good.
If Karmelo Anthony’s lawyer has a video and is willing to release it, he clearly believes it supports his client’s claim of self-defense.
But why release evidence that will be submitted at trial, knowing it could taint the local jury pool?
Could this be a strategic move to deliberately taint the jury pool and push for a change of venue to a location more favorable to the defense?
Who brings a knife to a Track meet? I don’t want to jump to conclusions but bring a deadly weapon to a high school sporing event? I mean if it were self defense, and he grabbed a shotput or a Javelin or something, I might understand that as self defense, or at least not pre-meditated.
I carry a pocketknife virtually everywhere. As a tool, not a weapon. Of course, a screwdriver can also be a formidable weapon in the right circumstances.
I’m so used to having the pocketknife that when I fly somewhere, I sometimes check my luggage with the knife, or buy a really cheap one at my destination and throw it away at the airport.
That is absolutely no excuse for this thug’s actions. But to make such a strong statement that a deadly weapon at a track meet is also a bit inflammatory.
My bet: She/it hasn’t seen the video.
The ‘tell’ about all this is that it hasn’t been released.
Assuredly IMHO.
People who deliberately spread such serious lies should get the sh*t beaten out of them with a shillelagh.
But it's worse than that. This piece of sh*t is still alive and breathing, while a boy that would have amounted to far more in life, is dead.
The kid who was stabbed did NOT GET DUE PROCESS. Take the primal who stabbed him out of his $800,000 house and NEW car fr Go Fund Me and put him in prison til the trial which should take 5 minutes.
That is absolutely no excuse for this thug’s actions. But to make such a strong statement that a deadly weapon at a track meet is also a bit inflammatory.
Was it a pocketknife? Nobody said he had a pocketknife, just a knife. I suppose, with luck or a skilled person, a ‘pocketknife’ is still a deadly weapon (which is why you can’t fly with them), but they didn’t say pocketknife. The reality that the media (whom generally tries to defend liberals) didn’t say ‘Pocketknife’ makes me believe it was probably more like a hunting knife.
Has there been any explanation given about why Anthony was at the tent in the first place...did he know someone on the team?
Have the DIMocRATs held a love-in for the murderer as yet? Has AOC dated him???
The ol’ systemic racism made him plunge a knife into his chest....OK.
