There is no test to determine the degree of impairment from marijuana and other street drugs. The Democrats liberalized the drug laws and more accidents are the result.

It’s not a federal issue, but we are seeing an uptick down here with non-English readers driving, but that fact is ignored because it hurts feelings.

Every 7 minutes from 2014 to 2023 would be a total of over 675,000 accidents.
So 2100 deaths is only a 0.3% mortality rate, which doesn’t sound surprising.
This is just another politician using a stat to get more money and impose more control over your life.

She only discovered it was a problem when Duffy became Secretary of Transportation. Before that - NO PROBLEM!
National crisis - baloney!

I hate driving on Long Island because there are basically only three major east-west roadways including the infamous Long Island Expressway (I-495). Morning and evening commutes, you got the sun right in your eyes. All the north-south roads are congestion nightmares.
Take the train when you can! The LIRR is pretty reliable and gets you most places you need to go. They also run out of Grand Central these days as well as Penn Station.
Harry Chapin died on the LIE back around 1981. I still hear his songs on the radio now and then. Traffic accidents out there are an old problem.

Police don’t want to pull drivers over. Who can blame them? They don’t want to be the next Derek Chauvin.

I second the motion.
Sure we all want to see highway safety. But is this really an issue for the Congress in Washington DC to deal with?

Ban vehicles! There is no Second Amendment for them.

Also, a rise in DWI related wrecks. Mucho borracho.

New York stopped building new highways since the “freeway revolt” of the 1970s. Environmental regulations make it more difficult as well. With regard to Long Island, there is no way out without going through the NYC boroughs. A Long Island to Westchester or Connecticut bridge or tunnel connection has been needed for over a half century but NIMBY attitudes and the hostility of the state government have prevented any construction.

“The failure to secure our roads” — huh? Were they getting up and walking away?

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is opinion or satire. Or both.)

“Long Island drivers get into a serious accident every seven minutes “
The same ones, every seven minutes? They should suspend these drivers’ licenses then.

They probably think it’s 11 1/2 meters.
