Very early reports. Only happened hours ago. Am hoping to find what firearm was used, caliber, and more particulars about the event. If anyone finds a source with information on those facts, please let me know.

Thanks for the clarification.
I should have put it in the remarks. When you work with this stuff all the time, it is easy to forget some terms are esoteric to most people.

The estimated weight is pretty light, even for a female grizzly. Guessing that’s due to a relatively recent conclusion of hibernation & no time for significant feeding, yet. Could be a factor in the attack, too.

At 250 pounds, she’s a small female grizzly……
To: irish guard
She is a mountain grizzly, and it is spring. She would probably weigh in at 400 lbs in the fall.

Cub should have learned something to survive during it’s first year.

Shed Elk Antlers are worth a lot of money.
The really good quality end up in chandeliers in billionaires vacation homes in Jackson Hole.
The lower quality end up as expensive dog chews like the piece my wife’s four pound Chihuahua is growling about right now at the other end of the couch.

For those who know: is that yearling Cub going to survive?I would guess so. I believe I've read that a grizzly sow will run off yearling cubs if newborn cubs are around.

I was shed hunting a while ago. Settled for one at an Amish manufacturer right up the road. Nice roll up garage door and all on it.
