I don’t wear a Rolex because it’s a lose - lose.
The right kid of people assume it’s probably fake so it makes a bad impression and the wrong kind of people assume it might just be real so it makes you a target and they rob you.
If you want a superior time piece, get an unobtrusive Omega.
I’ve got a lot of watches, one is an Omega. 1971 moon watch.
I started looking for one after meeting a fellow named Charlie Duke. Charlie was the youngest guy to walk on the moon.
They can’t counterfeit that one:)

Your comments make a lot of sense.
I don’t think I have ever purchased a watch yet I’ve always worn decent watches. They given to me by my parents as gifts or by my former employer. :-)

Watches are obsolete because of smartphones.
“Kind of man that walks around with nothing in his pockets, no identification because everyone knows who you are.
No cash because anyone in town would be happy to lend you anything you need.
No keys ‘cause you don’t keep a lock on a single thing you own.
And no watch because time waits on you.”
Seiko still makes good watches too. Been around for 100 years. And it’s a conversation starter too. Not worth being robbed for it, but people who notice it recognize the brand name but have likely never seen one.
You are correct, but it’s especially NEW Rolexes that will get the side eye, from those with “old money”; ancient ones, that have been inherited..those are okay and look different.
