How can a state that is LOSING population have a housing problem?

2020 - declined 182,083 (first annual loss since 1850)
2021 - declined 117,552
2022 - declined 113,649
2023 - gained 67,000
2024 - Data are preliminary; net international migration at 134,000 and reduced outmigration (197,000 net loss to other states).

Cumulative loss from 2020-2024: 280,000–330,000.

If the loss was 300k people and the average number of people living per housing unit is 2.2, then that loss freed up 136,000 housing units.

If a half million illegals self-deport, then there are a QUARTER MILLION housing units freed up!

WHAT “housing crisis”???

In certain cities almost all the housing is owned by AIRBNB corporations. My brother lives on the Oregon coast. Everything within a few blocks of the beach is owned by the same group.
