Animal lovers now have a place to hang out with the “it” animals of the moment — big furry rodents.
In the back of a real estate office building in what is known as America’s oldest city, capybaras are crawling into visitors’ laps, munching on corn on the cob, and hunting for scratches from humans at The Capybara Cafe in St. Augustine, Florida.
“You give them lots of scratches and love,” said Stephanie Angel, who opened The Capybara Cafe late last year. “A lot of times they’ll climb on your lap because they’re very used to people, and if you’re really good at giving scratches, they’ll actually fall over. So that’s always our goal to get them so comfortable that they fall over.”
Other animals like a skunk, wallaby, and armadillo are also introduced into the room, and they crawl among the humans and into their laps.

Tribbles
O, snap. At first I thought it said chupacabras.
I would love to visit rabbit or cat Island in Japan.
Cat and Robbit islands will have a war one day.
He’ll rip your lungs out, Jim.
Arent those the critters that get along with alligators/Crocs?? They even allow them to ride on their backs...
We have a Marijuana cafe nearby that apparently uses skunks as air fresheners.
Oh, joy!
Want I’ve always wanted to do.
My Comfort Rodent!
Restaurant owner: We’ve spent a fortune trying to get rid of these pests and rodents from our business.
Worker: Let’s just incorporate them into the atmosphere, make people fall in love with their cuteness. Problem solved.
Tim:
There he is!
King Arthur:
Where?
Tim:
There!
King Arthur:
What? Behind the capybara?
Tim:
It *is* the capybara!
King Arthur:
You silly sod!
Tim:
What?
King Arthur:
You got us all worked up!
Tim:
Well, that’s no ordinary capybara.
I’d DEFINITELY be a customer! They are adorable beasts.
They can do the same by marrying Democrats.
They are cute and cuddly, for a rodent.
Well, skunks, armadillos and wallabies are definitely not rodents.
And let’s not forget that in another week the Big Easter Rodent comes hopping down the bunny trail.
Great thread! Great picture! Would love to visit there. Any shop having petable attractions gets my vote and shopping.
Nope, nope nope. Holding out for way cuter South American animals. Alpacas need trendy cafes ASAP.
I don’t think they exist...
