I got one of those RIF notices back in 1993 and it was worded almost identically......know what I did?.......I began making plans to find another damned job!....and everyone that got one at my facility were all “essential” employees.

We kid ourselves if we think this is going to solve the “education problem”. The “leftist Educrat-style thinking” has had two generations at least to spread to college\university Ed departments, and state\county education departments. The teachers’ unions supports it because it provides the militancy to keep the local ed unions politically powerful. It’s going to be a long hard haul to purge these state & local copies of DOE.
A good reporter would ask something like "What exactly did you do at the DOE that a school district could not do for itself?"
I have yet to read what exactly the DOE does that is invaluable to the education of children or young adults.
I do know one teacher that told me he is overjoyed that the DOE is ending, and says that he will have a lot more time to do useful things.
