President Trump’s longtime goal of claiming Greenland for America has shifted from rhetoric to official U.S. policy as the White House moves forward on a formal plan to acquire the Arctic island from Denmark.
The plan mobilizes several cabinet departments behind Mr. Trump’s years of talk about wanting Greenland, whose economic and strategic value has grown as warming temperatures melt Arctic ice.....
....The Trump administration is also studying financial incentives for Greenlanders, including the possibility of replacing the $600 million in subsidies that Denmark gives the island with an annual payment of about $10,000 per Greenlander. ....Today, Greenland manages its own domestic affairs with a budget subsidized up to 60 percent by Denmark, which also manages its defense and foreign policy.
Greenland’s size — 836,330 square miles — also offers Mr. Trump, a former Manhattan developer, the chance to clinch what he may see as one of history’s greatest real estate deals.
Danish officials angrily insist that the sparsely populated island is not for sale and cannot be annexed. But Mr. Trump has made clear his determination to control it.
“We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it,” he said in an address to Congress last month.
“One way or the other, we’re going to get it,” Mr. Trump added.

Greenland population as of Jan 1 2025 was 53,000 - now they get $11,320 per - so 47 will win them over by reducing the amount to $10,000 per?
A military take over would be unopposed. They might have a few shotguns for shooting seals and polar bears at most.
Then why did trump threaten it? If no one believes then why say it all?
Exactly. The illegal alien foreign invaders took over the United States without using force. Why the hell would anyone think we would need to use force to take over Greenland? We need Greenland so Caucasian Americans will have someplace to go once the illegal alien foreigners completely colonize what was once America.
Trump could’ve just proposed Greenland 99 year lease of more real estate. Fact is, Greenland wouldn’t be interested in becoming a 51st or 52nd state even if he bunged everyone there a million dollars each.
The Greenland population has a concept of social value that Donald Trump doesn’t share.
“We need your land and we’ll get it one way or another” is doing the opposite of “we’ve got a great product and we really want you to buy it”. But the best sales pitch here would simply be, “what do you want in return for letting USA increase the footprint of its bases and towns?”
Trump might even want to watch Batteries Not Included.
Lacey complaining not just about the holdout tenants but the demolition crews eating in the diner they’re supposed to be tearing down, doesn’t endear the audience to Lacey’s perspective. Lacey’s position is quite reasonable until frustration leads him to send the thugs in to influence the tenants.
In the end Lacey does end up getting most of what he wanted, albeit with the apartment block still standing, and the diner still open for business. Everyone wins.
That’s where it’ll end with Greenland, I expect. The US presence can expand, happily, as long as there’s a recognition that the people of Greenland, on their own home turf, do not want to be a 51st or 52nd state - threats and insults aren’t going to deliver a better outcome.
Whatever, Trump can just do the same thing Putin is doing with Ukraine, except there would be no casualties.
Especially if Trump and Putin can agree Ukraine is Russia and Greenland is USA, and Putin has to keep and Exile Z-boy to Siberia
Yes, if Greenland became a state it’s two senators would make Bernie Sanders look like a conservative.
