Ray Shero - R.I.P.
With all due respect to Ray Shero, he joined a team with a young Sydney Crosby, Kris Letang, and Evgeny Malkin in the first 1-2 years of their careers.
There are some NHL GMs who could have screwed up such a great hand - But Shero did add the right pieces around them.
RIP
I was to Crosby’s first pre season game when he joined the Penguins. Seems like yesterday.
St. Lawrence grad, from back when they could compete.
He was Freddie Shero’s son. Freddie won a couple of Stanley Cups with the Flyers in ‘74 and ‘75.
I remember 1974 well, as a then Boston area resident and Bruins fan. Flyers fans held up signs that read “Hit Orr, he’s human”, and the players delivered. Hats off to them.
