ZACHARY, La. (WAFB) - The head of the Zachary Police Department is speaking out in response to social media rumors about a traffic Bingo game some officers allegedly played.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 25, Zachary Police Chief Darryl Lawrence Sr. confirmed that some officers created a Bingo game as a competition between shifts two years ago, but he denied a quota system or breaking of any laws.
“The officers did not receive any incentives or awards for this game,” he stated.
According to the chief, the police administration did not create or approve this game, and he immediately informed all supervisors and officers about it once he had been made aware of it. He warned them that “this kind of activity could threaten our relationship with Zachary residents and the public.”
The full statement is available here:
"Over the past few months, there have been numerous social media posts targeting my professionalism and character and the professionalism of the Zachary Police Department and our Officers. The information posted has been false and riddled with incorrect information.
Today, I would like to ensure the residents of Zachary and anyone who travels within the City limits of Zachary, that the Zachary Police Department does NOT have a quota system and is NOT breaking any Louisiana Laws. Two years ago, some officers created a Bingo game as a competition between shifts, it must be noted that the officers did not receive any incentives or awards for this game. This game was not created or approved by the Administration of The Zachary Police Department. Once I was made aware of this game, I immediately informed all Supervisors and officers that this kind of activity could threaten our relationship with Zachary Residents and the Public.
I want to reassure the residents of our City, and people that travel through The City of Zachary, that the officers of the Zachary Police Department work every day within the boundaries of Louisiana Law and the Laws and Ordinances of the City of Zachary.
We are here to Protect and Serve this Community. I urge residents to always be cautious of information shared on social media from non-reputable sources."

Put the cops on a monthly quota to write tickets, and this is how they play the game.
LOL these guys must be really bored.
Every police force has a quota. It is only a question as to whether the quotation is reasonable based on population and the behavior of that population. In my city, police have to issue 20 tickets/day and they tell me that is very easy to do without being too nitpicky about offenses.
Most safe drivers know this Citation stuff is just to make cities and counties rich.
Keeps cops employed doing nothing useful.
I don’t get in a vehicle to show off, I want to get from Point “A” to “B” as quickly and safely as possible.
I don’t want to wreck my or anybody else’s life.
If it is safe I’ll drive 70 in a 55 zone.
That is illegal, is it unsafe, no, that same road may be
unsafe at 25 mph in a storm, I, the driver decide,
I’ll probably do 20.
As long as you reward and promote on the basis of
quantity and not quality of a employees
contributions, you will get schiff.
Ha ha ha that’s funny!!
This is pretty funny.
I used to be an auxiliary police officer, and yes, there are quotas.
But Chief Darryl Lawrence Sr. did NOT order it stopped! What a weasel...
