I'm not a basketball expert, but it was a loose ball turnover and they were scrambling for possession when time ran out.

I don't think that's traveling as the player never established possession in the first place.

It was the Cougar player who jumped and had to release the ball or face an "up and down" traveling call. Once he dropped the ball, he was ineligible to touch it again which is what froze the other Cougars for a moment in confusion.

With the way the Gators were defending the perimeter and trying to stop the potential game-winning 3, if I were Houston, I would have just gone for the easy 2, and take my chances in overtime.

I was saying the same thing during the last gator possession. Someone else was yelling for the three and I said they only needed the two with 18 seconds left on the clock.

That's what ended up happening. I was surprised that Houston took so long to set up a shot. I think they wanted to make a run for the basket was was prevented from getting close.
