Vladimir Zelensky announced after a conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that military officials would hold a meeting to prepare for the deployment of foreign troops to Ukraine. According to him, such a step is being taken "to achieve peace and ensure security," Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports.
"Recent statements by the leaders of a number of European countries, including Great Britain, France and Germany, about their readiness to send troops to Ukraine are an alarming signal," Russian military expert Yury Knutov pointed out. "Russian service members say that oftentimes, they only hear foreign speech from the other side of the frontline. That said, foreign troops are already engaged in combat under the guise of private military companies. However, if contingents from NATO countries are openly deployed there, it will mean the bloc’s direct involvement in an armed conflict with Russia," he added.
According to the analyst, given the new risks, Moscow will have to make official statements, warning about the possible use of force against the bases of the countries that choose to deploy troops to Ukraine. "It won’t be enough to use the Oreshnik missile system against Ukrainian targets because the previous strike that involved this ballistic missile and hit Ukraine’s Yuzhmash defense plant in November 2024, apparently did not duly impress Kiev’s Western allies," Knutov remarked.
The expert also highlighted the need for Moscow and Washington to boost joint efforts to prevent such developments. "We know that US President Trump is against a new world war but the Democratic Party, which is in opposition to the current US administration, is interested in sparking a conflict like that. Its members maintain ties with European leaders, inciting further tensions in their bid to harm Trump. And it looks like this behind-the-scenes force has gone all-in as it is confident Russia will not give a tough response. This is exactly why European leaders suggest sending their occupation forces disguised as peacekeepers to the conflict zone. They will inevitably get involved in military operations, albeit not immediately," Knutov noted.
“In the usual manner: step by step. Ukraine now, the Baltics next.”
Har har har. At the rate they’re advancing now, we’ll see them at the Channel in about 300 years. Just save it already. Same old stupid hogwash from the uke nationalists.
All the more reason for us to wash our hands of the whole mess. It’s a European problem as someone once said.
If he succeeds in grabbing the 5 oblasts he claims and installs a puppet regime in Kiev, why would he not relocate couple hundred thousand troops to the borders of the Baltics or western Belarus and try?
I find it improbable that he will get all that he wants in Ukraine, but it's not an impossibility.
What is your expertise to judge military matters? Russia has not only defeated Ukraine, it has defeated the entire NATO there.
What is wrong if Putin takes Baltics? They were literally begging for it for years.
“What is wrong if Putin takes Baltics? They were literally begging for it for years.”
As opposed to Finland and Austria during the Cold War. Both countries knew how to behave and what red lines not to cross, and both remained free and prospered - obviously not the case today with the Baltics. So if the Baltics find themselves hosting Russian troops again, I can’t say that I would be surprised.
Typical delusional Russian boasting.
a) the initial goal of the supposed limited "Special Military Operation" was to take as much of Ukraine as Putin wanted, including Kiev, and (at a minimum) install a puppet government in Kiev. That operational goal clearly failed;
b) in response, the latest goal (at a minimum) was to push Ukraine out of the rest of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts by some time last fall. That has failed.
c) Putin now seems to think that Trump will somehow pressure Ukraine to get rid of Zelensky and hand over not only the parts of Luhansk and Donetsk still controlled by Ukraine but also the unoccupied parts of Zaporizhia and Kherson.
Russia seems to think that Trump has the ability to do so if he cuts off aid again. This is unlikely as Ukraine is getting larger supplies of artillery, vehicles, and intel from Europe after Trump's last cut off than it was and has greatly increased its own drone capacity.
Russia has not "lost" but it certainly hasn't "won" any of its major objectives either and appears unlikely to do so.
As long as the mangy bear has its paws getting chewed up in Ukraine, it appears unlikely to be capable of attacking the Baltics, which is why the Europeans want the war to continue.
All BS. Russia knows that Trump has little influence over Zelensky, the idea that Europe is increase aid is preposterous. Europe lacks ISR abilities that Russia and US have, they’ve ran out of supply either. It will take the US a decade to restore stocks of SAMs and ATGMs expended there. Europe is in such worse shape.
“Russia isn’t the Soviet Union.”
You guys in Europe seem to think that Russia is literally NO DIFFERENT than the Soviet Union...otherwise why the panic and the grandiose plans to re-arm*?
*of course we know that the new weapons will be pointed inward, rather than East, as the masses start opposing the Soviet-level oppression that we’re beginning to see in Europe.
Simple: if Russia does not gain what it wants in Ukraine, it won’t have the forces to attack the Baltics. If it does, it can amass sufficiently large forces to do so.

Russia will get what they want in Ukraine, one way or the other - they have made that clear. And should their loss rate get too high the way they’re fighting in Ukraine, they will use more effective ‘firecrackers’, as that seems quite clear also.
So, for the Baltics, if they keep being ‘cute’, once again, they’ll eventually get a Russian response-regardless of Ukraine, and no, Trump won’t bother starting WW3 over them...they’ll simply be ‘re-absorbed’ into Mother Russia. They don’t seem to understand that independence REQUIRES responsible behavior, particularly in certain parts of the world.
Dream on pierre. It’s the Uke’s desperate wish, that Russia attack NATO. You’ve all been crowing that Russia is running out of tanks and planes and manpower. How can they do that? You’re claims don’t square.
With the bulk of the Russian army tied down in Ukraine, Putin can't attack the Baltics.
