The annual excitement over Girl Scout Cookie season took an unexpected turn this year when a viral report alleged that the beloved treats contain heavy metals and pesticides. The claim was initially met with skepticism, but has now escalated into legal action, leaving consumers questioning the safety of the iconic cookies.
The controversy began when two consumer groups, Moms Across America and GMO Science, conducted a study analyzing 25 cookie samples from California, Iowa, and Louisiana. The report, which was published in December, claimed that 100% of the tested samples contained detectable levels of heavy metals, including aluminum, arsenic, lead, and mercury, as well as pesticides including glyphosate.
In response, the Girl Scouts of the USA quickly issued a statement on Feb. 6, posting an online response titled "An Important Update for Our Members and Supporters." The statement reassured customers that the cookies are fully safe for consumption.

n March 10, a New York woman filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court, citing the Moms Across America and GMO Science study. According to USA Today, the lawsuit alleges that Girl Scout Cookies contain dangerous levels of heavy metals and pesticides, and accuses the Girl Scouts of making false claims about the quality and safety of its products to the public.
The plaintiff, Amy Mayo, is seeking $5 million in damages on behalf of consumers nationwide who purchased the cookies. The lawsuit also calls for the Girl Scouts and its bakeriesβFerrero and ABC Bakerβto state the presence of these substances on cookie packaging, arguing that Mayo and other consumers would not have bought the cookies had known this information.
Still not as bad as the dioxin in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
So they are a good source of iron. What’s wrong with that?
And baby parts affiliations with Planned Parenthood. Haven’t had a Thin Mint in years.
Keebler has pretty good knockoffs. Coconut Dreams taste as good as a Samoa. Itβs probably also an evil company, but at least it isnβt evil cloaked In childhood innocence.

Glyphosate isn't a pesticide.
...but no pest infestation so far?
I dunno yikes
And aluminum is not a heavy metal
This article is useless without specific info about the amounts of contaminants. You could find minute trace amounts all those things in just about anything you tested.
Mineral-rich!

Our ability to detect extremely minute traces of elements and molecules, combined with the insanity of extrapolating dangerous concentrations down to zero, results in this sort of insanity.
I’d be more surprised if they “tested” them and didn’t find anything. There are very few things that if tested with good modern analytical instruments will actually return non detect results. This type of testing is a huge racket these days with grifters and lawyers using it to reap cash out of entities. Prop 65 created this environment in California and after a period of getting sued over “not disclosing that X has detectable quantities of bad stuff in it” almost EVERYTHING sold in California has a Prop 65 warning label on it. It’s easier to just put the label on anything you sell.
No matter. I stopped buying when they went full-on-dyke.
Pesticides are not my thing.
Heavy Metal! Yea baby! If it is too loud, you’re too old.
We’ve still got a couple of boxes left. I am still eating them. These types of reports are almost always complete BS.
even the unleaded varieties are poison to anyone with diabetes, pre-diabetes, overt celiac disease, and/or gluten allergy ... it’s all i can do to pass by the thousands of girl scout cookie stands that sprout in early spring around all grocery and hardware stores without making some kind of remark that their cookies would kill me if i ate any ...
I haven’t purchased Girl Scout cookies since they went over to the dark side.
