Tucker Carlson caused a stir in a recent interview that may cause some Americans to do a double take on the vehicles they are driving.
During an interview with automotive designer and internet personality Casey Putsch last week, Tucker mentioned that he is a lifelong fan of Chevrolet trucks but felt he had to “immediately” sell his latest one after spotting a disturbing message on the car’s dashboard.
“I bought a truck last year…A Chevy truck, which I’ve always had, and I was at a gas station, he said. “And all of a sudden at a gas station, it says, ‘Stop, we’re downloading information from the internet.'”
“While you were driving?” Putsch asked.
“No, I was stopped,” Tucker replied. “I sold the car immediately. I brought it back and sold it.”
“They want all your data to provide to insurance companies to wreck your life, I’m sure,” Putsch responded.
...
Tucker last year bought his 1987 Chevy Silverado and revealed the car’s lack of technology was a prime appealing factor to him:
“There are no electronics in this. There’s no air conditioning, there’s no radio, and there’s no way for the government to turn off my engine if I’m disobedient,” he said at the time.
“So that’s what I drive. I like it.”
“In fact this is exactly how the “life 360” cell phone tracking app works. It uses the mesh IoT around you to locate you more precisely than GPS.”
Like the other dude said: you are full of BS.
I’ve 360 uses the phone’s GPS position.
You need to read. I never said it was my old Chevy. I drive that old Chevy for exactly this reason. It does have HEI and I do not have to worry about such things.
You might also want to dig deeper and realize these were CUSTOMER’S CARS because I owned repair shops and had to diagnose these strange issues for customers.
So before you knee jerk and get foolishly insolent with “childish insults” you might read more first. I absolutely DO know what I am taking about. It is my life business and trade. It is what I do. And I absolutely have indeed ran into this issue twice with customer’s cars in doing my many years in the auto repair business.
“Meaning they can track your car as you drive down a street by using the mesh network of all the home routers and ring camera mesh nodes along that street. They do not need GPS as long as there is a WiFi device relay node in range.”
Cars do not share via wifi.
“Like the other dude said: you are full of BS.”
Ok, I’m sick of your childish games and demeaning insults because you insist on being ignorant to reality and do not understand the tech like you “think” you do. Here you go, right out of the mouth of Life 360 themselves. And you know what? I have shared this same fact over and over here before and you have no reason to be ignorant about the reality.
“Life360 has a great reputation as an effective and easy-to-use family location connection and safety app that allows GPS location sharing via cellular/>WiFi connection<.”
WIFI CONNECTION...

“Cars do not share via wifi.”
Yes they do... Same tech as Life 360.
Openurmind is a lost cause. He has posted and reposted lots of misinformation such as:
Cars connect to gas station wife’s when tpyou stop for gas.
Cell connections aren’t important in Internet of Things networks.
“Yes they do”
Please cite an example where a car has a factory installed wifi transmitter.
“Same tech as Life 360.”
Both use cell data.
You said it was a ‘78 Chevy van.
I’ve been in this business 35+ years. My specialty is luxury European. I’ve hired and fired many. Self proclaimed master techs were always unemployable due to ego and a lack of real world experience. I don’t believe a word you say.
Microwave towers? Really?
You said life360 used mesh Technology for location.
From your link: “Life360 uses GPS location tracking to pinpoint the location of users and Circle members”
He is unreal.
Now saying that Life360 does not use GPS and post a link to prove it.
Only, the life360 link he posted says they DO use GPS.
““Life360 has a great reputation as an effective and easy-to-use family location connection and safety app that allows GPS location sharing via cellular/>WiFi connection<.””
Hammer. GPS POSITION!
You said it didn’t USE GPS POSITION.
GM had to be paying the carrier for cellular service, I’d think. The On Star system could certainly be used for tracking, but someone had to pay the phone companies/and or satellite communications for that service. Satellite minutes aren’t cheap, either...
“You said it was a ‘78 Chevy van.”
No... I said I OWNED a Chevy van. Show me where I claimed it was my 78 Chevy this happened to.
I said I have “seen it happen”. In no way did I say or was I implying it was mine it happened to. In fact I made the comment that is exactly why I drive the old Chevy with no chips and will never drive one with chips.
Show me where I connected my own vehicle to this particular problem... I did not. So don’t try to pull that game and twist it out of context into something I DID NOT CLAIM.
I was born into the business and have been a shop owner all my life until I sold out and retired a few years ago. So I have 55 years in the business. I rebuilt my first engine in my father’s repair business when I was 7 years old. I was born into it and it is what I have done all my life.
When I was born my Father owned two gas stations, one with a C store. Two Auto Repair shops, One Heavy Truck repair shop, and a tow service for both Autos and Heavy Truck. I right now have molds in my tool storage for pouring Babbitt Bearings in pre 1934 engines and have poured dozens. And I have an HP Tuner with a current subscription sitting on my bench I just used yesterday for an LH 6 engine swap my buddy and I just did in a 1958 Grumman-Olson aluminum bread truck.
I am old school to new school through and through Brother. One of my shops we specialized in just custom hot rods for 20 years. Frame up fabrication. One catered to the general public all makes and models. The third was full Heavy Truck repair. I’m the real deal and even consult other shops with diagnosis. So believe what you like, but I absolutely have the experience to know what I am talking about.
1”I am old school to new school through and through Brother. “
Still waiting for you to show me a car with a factory installed WiFi terminal.
Correct... Using the Cellular WiFi capability just like I claimed.
“via cellular/>WiFi connection<.”
Know what “Via” means?
via
preposition
1: by way of
2: through the medium or agency of
also : by means of
They now all have passive WiFi relay node transceivers.
“And I have an HP Tuner “
I hope you are not going to say your tuner connects to the car’s WiFi ...
“They now all have passive WiFi relay node transceivers.”
But you can’t even show me one.
If it transmits, it is not passive.
I tried not to embarrass your knowledge base. But since you insist here:

“I hope you are not going to say your tuner connects to the car’s WiFi ...”
Of course not. But the HP tuner device it’s self that plugs into the port can be either hard cabled or Bluetoothed to your laptop. Mine is hard cabled.
