Do Our Schools Have a Prayer?
New American Prophet ^ | March 3, 2025 | Dr. Jerry Newcombe

Posted on 04/03/2025 5:43:00 AM PDT by Rev M. Bresciani

There’s a battle right now related to religion and Oklahoma schools. Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters is in favor of greater religious expression in the public schools of that state. Others in the “The Sooner State,” including the state attorney general and some confused clergy, oppose what Walters is attempting to do.

This nation was much safer when every day started with a prayer. The decent started when they took prayer out of school.

Walters wants taxpayers to purchase 55,000 “Trump Bibles only “ for every classroom. Having a Bible next to a dictionary in every classroom is not the problem. Insisting they be “Trump” Bibles might be.

Because the Trump bibles contain our founding documents is his rationale.

Yes. Much of our downfall started in the early 60's. Removing prayer and acknowledgement of God in schools, decriminalizing contraception nationwide, and the push for the pernicious ERA did irreparable damage to our nation. Now, everyone has become inured to the sin, and can't imagine returning to a former standard.

And the removal of prayer started when the “they” you refer to were successful in taking control of the schools. Hopefully the demise of the DOE and return of control of education to parents will make for positive changes.

I couldn't disagree more strongly. I was very happy when they stopped that because students made a mockery of that event. Furthermore, different denominations are different; and, I was being forced to pray in a manner not suitable for my beliefs. (LCMS Lutheran in Southern Baptist territory)

Any day can start with a prayer even without the school doing that. Be advised, I never stopped praying in school, I just didn't make a public spectacle over it. I am convinced that people who want prayer in public schools are represented by the Pharisee in Jesus's Parable of the Pharisee and Publican.

I think the problem started because families quit going to church and holding devotionals at home.

I see this as a problem.

not if we keep our borders open! We have muslim cities in MI and TX now, thanks the globalist diversity worshippers who demand millions of ‘legal’ immigrants every year

As long as there are tests, mid-terms and finals, there will be prayer in school!

My mother told me about when she was in elementary school in Harrisburg, PA in the late ‘20’s, early ‘30’s around the 3rd grade, the teacher lead the students in “The Lord’s Prayer” but it was the “Protestant” version and she was not allowed to say, even to herself the Catholic version or make the Catholic sign of the Cross and was punished for not conforming. She also told me her few friends who were Jewish were either forced to say the prayer and were punished and ridiculed by the teacher if they didn’t.

This teacher in front of the classroom called my mother a “papist” and an “idolator” for being a Catholic and called the Jewish kids in her class “pickle lickers” and “You Jesus killers” and other vile names.

This same teacher punished my mother for getting a math problem wrong, and in front of the entire classroom, put her over the lap, pulled down her panties and spanked her naked butt while encouraging the class to laugh at her.

My mother never got over this shame and became “math phobic”. My mother was quite intelligent and well-read and excelled in music but was terrified for the rest of her adult life of even trying to do the simplest of math problems because of this teacher.

As much as I would like to see prayer in schools, we must remember that our schools now have folks from the religion of hate contained within. Be prepared for them to “demand” changes which always result in ruining things.

Our schools do have a prayer of returning to high standards of education. It can be done only if conservatives do the following things:

♦ Become teachers and take employment in public schools
♦ Become "educators" and take employment in state, local, and universities
♦ Faithfully attend all school board meetings
♦ Insist that curriculum be restored and grooming/indoctrination be removed
♦ Restore the grading scales and prohibit "gift grades"
♦ Restore discipline in the classroom, permit disruptive students to drop out of school
♦ Restore grade-level tracks, separate students according to ability
♦ Put special needs students in special needs classes with special needs teachers.
The ticklish problem is dealing with parents who sue the school in order for their children to have better grades, an infinite number of make-up tests, and no hard deadlines, and no expulsion for violence or drug dealing.

We have students of all Faiths and denominations. Religious activities do not belong in public schools.

Very incorrect. The descent started when parents quit teaching their children religious Faith at home and taking them to church. Next the parents failed to monitor their children's progress in schools, allowing leftist indoctrination to go unchecked. Parents also sue the schools to force challenged students into the same classes as gifted students, force schools to give higher grades than deserved, force the schools to keep violent or uncooperative students in class.

Thank you very much for sharing that grim story. I feel like the lone voice crying in the wilderness on these threads. I have seen so many Christians do some vile things, and smugly cling to some odd sense of righteousness. It is easy to overlook the differences in Christian denominations when ignorant.

Schools haven’t had a prayer since 1962.
