Owners of non-Tesla cars can get similar capabilities by buying a dashcam(era) that has a “parking mode”. Note that the image sensors won’t be embedded in the body. Parking mode requires its own supplementary battery, to avoid draining and wearing down the starter’s battery.
A dashcam that also has “buffering” acquires footage continuously, but only saves and records the footage 15 seconds before the change in scenery or sensed trigger.
The majority of dashcams have both front and rear image sensors, some have a 3rd to record the car’s interior. A few have side sensors. The most sensitive sensor with COLOR NIGHT footage is the Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. Newer dashcams by VIOFO (and a few others) use this sensor.
