CV NEWS FEED // Baltimore prosecutors will retry Patrick Brice on a felony first-degree assault charge for violently attacking an elderly pro-life advocate outside a Planned Parenthood facility in 2023.
A jury convicted Brice Feb. 6 of two counts each of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment for the attack on then 84-year-old Dick Schafer and 73-year-old Mark Crosby, CatholicVote reported. The jury acquitted him of the first-degree charge in Schafer’s case and failed to reach a verdict on the charge related to Crosby.
Brice’s sentencing on the unresolved felony charge involving Crosby — initially scheduled for March 20 — was postponed to Aug. 7 as prosecutors prepare to retry the case, ABC Baltimore reported. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for March 28, according to court records.
As CatholicVote previously reported, Brice assaulted the two men while they were praying outside a North Baltimore abortion facility. One he shoved to the ground and kicked in the face. The other he tackled over a flower pot.
The attack left Crosby with a fractured orbital frontal plate and Schafer with scrapes and an injured shoulder.
Both Crosby and Schafer returned to the same location within a week of the attack, continuing their peaceful prayer and outreach efforts.
