“...clad in thick armor to resist cosmic radiation...”

How will the human passengers in tow behind this behemoth be protected from cosmic radiation after slipping out from inside the Earth’s magnetic field?

Nothing says they can’t make their own magnetic field...............

Speed won’t get us to other planets but time travel and figuring out worm holes etc will unless they figure out immortality.

Advanced AI directed robots traveling at sub-luminal speeds and carrying a catalogue of Earth DNA is what will get human like colonies on other planets. No need to invent fantasy physics to get 'er done.

Man made Fusion is a reality, since Edward Teller.

Controlled fusion is not.

The laws of physics might have something to say about it! But you may be right about how this problem gets addressed. If it ever does.

Some are motivated by personally escaping Earth. Not necessarily for transmitting their DNA!

I had a car once that the engine was in the rear but the battery was in the front. The cable ran through the body tunnel the full length of the car.

We had a floating ball compass on the dashboard.

Whenever we started the car, the compass would align with the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the cable from the battery to the starter motor.

So it’s magnetic field was several times stronger than the Earth’s magnetic field for that short period of time................

“Advanced AI directed robots traveling at sub-luminal speeds and carrying a catalogue of Earth DNA is what will get human like colonies on other planets.”

And what exactly does that do for humans on earth? Planting non-existent human “like” life on other planets via AI is irrelevant for humanity that exist now and the human “like” means what? AI slaves?

They have made tremendous progress, fusion is now only 20 years away!

LOL

Never could quite understand electromagnetic fields, EM theory, etc....

Always needed to hold things, turn them around, look at them, to begin to understand how they function, in isolation or as part of a system.

Anything that required more than just surface abstract thinking? Yeah, I’ll just knuckle down, try get through the class without destroying my cumulative GPA...

There are nuclear physicists that don’t either.................

Some are motivated by personally escaping Earth.

They may escape Earth, but years in space will kill them.

And what exactly does that do for humans on earth?

Ensures that human ancestors might still exist in the event an asteroid kills us all.

Planting non-existent human “like” life on other planets via AI is irrelevant for humanity that exist now and the human “like” means what?

Short sighted. Genetic engineering may be required to incorporate whatever local fauna the Von Neumann probes encounter in order to make Earth DNA more adapted to the local environment.

AI slaves?

I was thinking more like a zoo or wildlife preserve. You might be living in one now.

Years?

Good luck with that!
