4 gallons of gas has more stored energy then the entire battery pack of the electric Ford F-150.
AND it doesn't take hours to fill 4 gallons at the pump
Though to be fair modern ICE engines only convert about 33% of their energy to useful work.
However, since EVs are usually charged at night that means the bulk of their electrical energy is coming from fossil fuels, nuclear and hydro So the coal plant that also runs 30-40% efficient loses at least 8% of its power as do all forms of generation just getting it from the plant to the house. And according to Google charging an EV loses another 20% for level 2 charging. So getting to the charged battery you have .4*.92*.8=.29 So of your energy content of fossil fuel 29% gets into the battery. EV drive train losses run 10%-25% if we hit a midpoint of 17% multiply that .29% by .83 and get 24.4% round to 24%. In reality EVs burn fossil fuel less efficiently than ICE cars.
Now some on EV shills here will mention that our generation mix is nationwide 60% fossil fuel. So what? The fossil fuel you burn is still only burned at 24% efficiency from fuel to road. Now add in that EVs are heavier for the same passenger capacity and you end up with even less efficiency efficiency. and although windmills are 10% of the nation's nameplate capacity, on average they only run 25% of the time and of course solar doesn't work at night when most people like to charge their EVs. End the subsidies. End the ridiculous "green" restrictions on coal plants and let the marketplace decide. If you like them by all means buy one, but don't go around telling everyone else how great they are.
