I am glad I no longer live in Colorado. I would not have complied with their silly law, but it is better not to live with the risk.
My kid and his enviable gun collection just moved there for a job.
And it’s likely that people will not comply. And there they would remain, in your closet, safe, or hidden away. But there is a more insidious risk we don’t often discuss.
Even though you can keep the ones you have (for now), every person at a shooting range who sees you with it can note it and your license plate... for someday when confiscation comes and they offer rewards.
Every relative or ex-wife who knows you “had guns” would be lying in wait for their chance.
God forbid you ever used it, every cop arriving would be well trained that that kind of gun is illegal to sell and they are going to start digging deeper.
New Mexico just now almost passed a law that any so called “gas operated” firearm would have to be registered annually, and it would have to be notarized and if you were off your property, you had to carry that paper on your person.
It failed, barely....
New Mexico, like Colorado has a bumper crop of what the British call “head girls” who graduate high in their class, festooned with awards and honors, then they go off to Stanford, Yale, U of Virginia, etc.... they get some degree in public policy or something “XYZ Studies”.
Then they flock back and get elected to the legislature.
Bad things are afoot.
We left Aurora in 2020 after retiring and moved to a red state. I miss the hunting out there, but I’m glad we left especially how far they have fallen.
My dad... I never thought he’d leave Colorado, but at 75 he’s looking for a new home in North Carolina. Giving up 40 acres and an awesome house less than two miles from San Isabell.
