There was a lot of “street talk” doubting the Warren Commission in the 1960s—coming mostly from the left at that time—and of course the Garrison investigation was also getting a lot of coverage.

Ironic, since JFK would be somewhere slightly to the right of President Trump, if he were alive today. He wouldn't even be allowed in the Democrat party, I'm quite sure.

True—but the left mantra of the time was that JFK was the peacemaker hated by the military industrial complex, Texas oilmen etc.

This was best demonstrated in the 1973 movie “Executive Action”:
