If it makes sense it will happen due to market pressures.

Until they solve the battery problem (much cheaper and able to store energy much more efficiently.

We can never have a full “energy transition” because the sun doesn’t shine 24hrs a day, and the winds doesn’t blow all the time. It’s as simple as that.

Though we should hope that the use of animals, and especially pray that the use of slave labor, will decline.

I very much doubt that either will ever be eliminated.

Slavery is as much about domination of another human as it is about cheap labor.

Animal power is much easier and cheaper to obtain in remote areas than electric power that must be carried on transmission lines. And since animal power is self replicating it becomes much cheaper or even profitable once on owns several.

It may become rare but not eliminated.

The greenies have been going with the doctrines of forcing the idea, spending endless trillions on their buddies, we don’t care if this kills the masses, and one idea fits all people. Loveably Stalinist.

When the technology is there, it will happen.

But if the tech is not there, it’s a fool’s errand to mandate it.

Just as a small addition to the discussion. Regarding solar, it takes more bi-facial solar panels (661 sq ft) than will fit on the roof, and 500 lbs of LiPo4 batteries to take a small one-story 1500 sq ft house off the grid down here in NE Texas. Not to mention, two big charge controllers/converters plus wiring infrastructure. I know, because I’m doing it. And, if I don’t get at least bright partly cloudy days, it’s going to hit the grid or the generator for an hour or two sometime in a 48 hr period. Yeah, I still have a light bill. It’s just pocket change from what it used to be, but it’s still a light bill.

Even if the promotion of wind and solar ended today the price of electricity would still go up. Somehow someone will pay for the $9 Trillion wasteful boondoggle of the last decade. Someone will have to pay to put things back together to something resembling reliable and efficient. It will cost more trillions.

Don’t get comfortable with the idea of natural gas being a base load fuel. We have been down that road before. It didn’t last then and it won’t last now. 20 years, tops before shortages drive prices for natural gas up.

Something much better must be done. Safe and efficient nuclear is the way to go and it probably involves Thorium. We won’t get there without crisis though. Unnecessary crisis. We have never had a national energy policy and program that lasts much more than a political season and we don’t now. Politics and inertia block the solutions to problems of the nation and this never changes.

So we’re not supposed to buy Tesla EVs because Elon Musk is a “bad guy”.

When wind and solar become as efficient as fossil fuels and nuclear for electrical generation, or better, it will be worth our while to invest in them. Keep up the research, but don’t mandate their use.

...wo Oxford professors, asserted that the “clean energy revolution is being driven by fundamental technological and economic forces that are too strong to stop,”

Well, no. They might be in the future but at the moment the assumption that is driving this "progress" is that it can be accelerated through the auspices of state coercion. That is false. Technology proceeds at its own pace, and deliberately creating pain points to attempt to drive the market results only in pain. Oxford professors and politicians standing at a pulpit and declaiming "I command you to improve" is at its best silly grandstanding. Adding "Or we will make everyone suffer" is something far worse.
