I thought that is what farm kids did.

They worked.

“Whitefeather”!? Almost sounds like a “ native American”(immigrant from asia) name.

Whitefeather sounds maybe native American heritage, I guess she doesn’t see the hypocrisy here on treating people poorly.

The race of the people involved is irrelevant. If those with parental responsibility toward a child abuses exploits that child in any way the penalties should be severe. And if the abuse/exploitation is very severe so should the punishment.

Children are precious. I will never understand how people can be so cruel to them. They just want love, guidance, security, and the basics (food, clothing, shelter).

My children did not truly understand how comfortable their lives were until they got older and saw how some of their friends lived or were treated.

May these cretins rot for what they did.

The couple’s defense attorneys argued that they were overwhelmed after taking in the children, who were already suffering from the abuse of their biological parents.

Whitefeather’s attorney, Mark Plants, said during closing arguments that the couple’s only crime was bad parenting.

“These are farm people that do farm chores,” Plants said. “It wasn’t about race. It wasn’t about forced labor.”

who were already suffering from the abuse of their biological parents.

That may be true. Bad situation that got worse.

Predators know how to prey................

“Whitefeather’s attorney, Mark Plants, said during closing arguments that the couple’s only crime was bad parenting.” Isn’t that enough? No human deserves to be treated like that especially children, I don’t care what color they are. Put them in a prison with some welcoming bodybuilding dudes decorated with some lovely tattoos depicting mayhem.

I haven’t followed this, and I am not in any way trying to justify or defend abhorant behavior.. but I do have some questions.

They adopted the children in 2018... yet they moved to WV in May 2023, and the Police took the children in October 2023.

That means for close to 5 years they weren’t on this farm in WV being forced into “slave labor”?

Again, this whole story just raises questions for me. Was this abuse ongoing? Or did it start in WV? Is anyone more familiar with this whole situation?

Quoting trial sentences by att9rnies designed to sway a jury are hardly neutral details.

More like dem/republican talking poibts designed to obfuscate the truth in order to win.

Who knows what the heck the truth really is. Doesn’t matter to our legal system. Even judges say unprofessional things at judgement.

God knows, and God’s mercy and justice work perfectly.

I read through the story. It is such a poorly written article, that mostly does not add up. So, who knows what really went on.

I can't even figure out the current ages of the kids or the actual number. It starts out saying, “forcing their five adopted black children to work on their farm as “slaves”. In a caption in the article it says, “The adopted children are ages 6, 9, 11, 14 and 16.” I guess they are no longer counting the older girl since she is now 18, but would add up to six not five.

My wife and I have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. We were both required to do chores including pulling weeds and planting with our hands when we were kids. We tried to get our kids to do the same when they were growing up. We have never been able to get any of our grandkids to do anything that has any economic value. When we have them and our kids over for holidays, no one even helps us wash the dishes... let alone picking up the other messes that they make while visiting.

From the pictures it doesn't look like the “parents” were prospering by taking advantage of their adopted children. I am fairly certain that this was a bad situation, and a jury was convinced that it was. But you cannot tell for certain what was going on from the articles that you can find.

Jeanne Kay Whitefeather received up to 215 years in prison and her husband, Donald Lantz, will serve up to 160 years — the maximum sentence — after the pair were convicted of forced labor, human trafficking and child abuse and neglect in January.

How much time do you get for murdering someone?

Might have been less costly to just kill them.

I do not understand how courts come up with these ridiculous sentences. Sure, if these people actually did what they are accused of doing, then a lot of time in prison would seem reasonable. But nearly 400 years in prison and they didn't kill anybody? How does that work?

It's just the silly court system being silly.

HOUSTON, Texas — A janitor who worked in a Texas medical facility was sentenced this week to six years in prison after he spread sexually transmitted diseases by peeing in women’s water bottles.

See? This is what I mean about screwy sentences. They are all over the place!

It doesn’t matter what color parents or kids are. The sentence is just. IMHO
