The Democratic Party’s approval rating among Americans has cratered to a record low, according to a new poll conducted by SSRS in conjunction with CNN.
In total, just 29 percent of respondents indicated that they hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party, a record-low in the surveys 30-year history. CNN’s Manu Raju explained that the poll’s results are even more striking when considering the fact that Democratic Party approval has plunged more than 20 percentage points in just four years, down from a high of 49 percent.
The November presidential elections — in which President Trump swept all seven swing states, out-performed polling averages by roughly four percentage points and became the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004 — were thought to be a wake-up call for Democratic Party leaders and voters. Exit polls measured widespread dissatisfaction with the party on economic strategy, immigration and the pushing of leftist social ideologies such as transgenderism and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies.
Democrat voters have not yet gotten the message, however, as evidenced by the response’s to CNN’s poll.
A total of 57 percent of Democrat respondents and Democrat-leaning independents want the party to do more to “stand up” to President Trump and thwart his agenda. Just 42 percent of Democrats want to see the party work with Republicans when they can, such as this week’s vote to avert a government shutdown.
“The majority’s desire to fight the GOP marks a significant change in the party’s posture from the start of Trump’s first term. A September 2017 poll found a broad 74 percent majority of Democrats and Democratic leaners saying their party should work with Republicans in an attempt to advance their own priorities, and just 23 percent advocating for a more combative approach,” the outlet noted in the survey’s write-up.
A slight majority of Democrats and Democrat-leaning adults, 52 percent, believe the party is trending in the wrong direction. This represents another major shift from 2017, when a majority of respondents expressed satisfaction with the party’s trajectory.
In total, just 29 percent of respondents indicated a positive view of the party, down more than 20 points from a January 2021 survey taken shortly after the January 6 Capitol protests.
The overall number is driven by increasingly negative views among Democrat respondents. Just 63 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents said they hold a favorable view of the party, down from 72 percent in January and 81 percent at the start of the Biden Administration. The decline encompasses all ideological wings of the party, with satisfaction plunging 18 percent among both liberals and moderates alike.
By contrast, 79 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents expressed a positive view of the Republican Party. Political independents maintain a negative view of both parties, however, with 20 percent expressing a positive view of the GOP and 19 percent saying the same for Democrats.

I would be willing to bet that the majority of the 29% live in overwhelmingly Themocrat districts - this number won’t go down much more, but they can be safely ignored.
But for a lot of Democrats the pay for being on the wrong side of history is really good.
