‘House Of David’ Just Knocked Down Amazon Prime Video’s Best Show

I wrote an article just last week about how House of David, the series with zero social media chatter, is quickly become a big hit for Amazon Prime Video, dipping into the seldom-tapped well of biblical adaptations, at least on streaming services.

When I touched on it last, I remarked that it was only behind Reacher and Invincible on Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 list, and there was no doubt it would stay there (which would still be extremely impressive).

Now? The House of David has actually moved up to #2, which has knocked down Invincible, and its perfect, 100%-scored season 3, to the #3 spot, despite airing what was easily one of its most intense episodes of all time this past week, with the finale arriving this week. This was also not the finale of House of David or anything, as the show still has four more episodes to go, including its two-part David versus Goliath finale, one of the most famous biblical face-offs.

House of David is now only behind Reacher, now in its third season, keeping it away from the #1 spot. I refuse to believe that no matter how popular House of David gets, it will be able to dethrone Reacher, which is such a widely-watched series it stays on Amazon Prime Video’s Top 10 list for almost the entire time between its seasons, which can be well over a year.

House of David seems spawned from the huge success of The Chosen, another Bible drama that has performed impressively across multiple seasons so far. Given the performance of that show and this one, I would expect more live-action adaptations to follow.

One question I have is…does anyone own the copyright to the Bible?

Yep. Season 3, episode 0.36. The Russian Roulette scene. That’s when I gave up. I was guessing Reacher knew it was a fake bullet. No prob. Then the guy grabs it and shoots a hole in an oil can. Too bad he took the gun away. Coulda ended the nonsense Reacher season 3 right there. Sorry for the spoiler alert, folks, but I suppose you’ll find plenty of ridiculous other situations that I did not spoil.

I shoulda quit back when Reacher emptied the bullets from his revolver and dumped them in a dumpster (police never look in a dumpster, right?) But . . . kept the pistol that he used to shoot a lawman? Because . . . sorry, I can’t even imagine.

But the concrete story you mention for season 2 is even funnier. Having had to try finish-troweling the top of my retaining wall after the truck left after only 45 minutes. I can understand that a writer might not know anything about concrete setting up, but Google can reveal the secrets of curing concrete. You don’t even need AI.

BTW, did you know that it’s best to leave forms on for at least 72 hours for a far better, stronger, solid cure?

Yes, Reacher is stupid and I gave up watching as well, but, to be fair, Reacher does explain later how he was able to cheat the game so he wouldn’t shoot himself.

David’s huge and dysfunctional family should provide a lot of fodder for a show.

Amazon announced yesterday it has been renewed for a second season.
