Former Zoomie, and should prefer the Thunderbirds over the Blue Angels. But the Blue Angels have always been my favorite.
Have seen both MAN Times.
I first saw the Blue Angels. I was in Farragut State Park, Idaho for the National Boy Scout Jamboree in 1973. I saw the Blue Angels for the first time and I was HOOKED !! I was already into Aviation since Dad worked for AA. He was in sales and had actually sold the Charters for transportation to both the West and East locations. There was a choice of Charter Flights of 4 707’s going to the West and East Jamborees and then ride a Charter Bus 4 of them just from the Houston area Scouts. We had the option of Bus and Camp Our Way to location for 2 weeksr at various locations like Grand Canyon National Park then on to SLC and Camp in the BYU Gymnasium and a couple other places. We had a choice of Fly/Ride or Ride/Fly. And I digress into blabbering on and on. So I will shut up🤠
I saw the Thunderbirds for the first (may have been at BAFB, Bergstrom Air Force Base which is now the Austin, TX Intergalactic Airport.) that but I don’t remember where for sure.
There was one time at Randolph AFB in Universal City, TX and was at My Girlfriend's house and She was working Nightshift (Nurse) so Sunday morning She got Home and went to sleep. We were already planning on going to the Airshow later on that day and took a nap. Just before the alarm went off We were awakened with a low pass by a jet that was HAULING A$$!!! The house is right in line with the Approach path and normally just T-6 Trainer traffic, the occasional C-130 and rarely any jets. When that jet went over it was outbound and had to have been right at or going into Burner ! We both sat bolt up in bed !!! She had a bewildered look on Her face and My response was "AIRSHOW !!!" just then the alarm went off. 🤠 I probably should have checked out the roof for shingles that were blown off by the "Alarmpass".
So when We get to the Base I don't tell Her anything about the Thunderbird Show details. It was HER 1st Sneak Pass (aside from the Wake Up Pass.) She was retired Army...
I would love to score a ride with either of them !!! I might puke in the Mask but I think I'll try anyway.🤢
