Threads used for stitching? Some threads are more aerodynamic than other threads? A “reinforced” thread is objectionable ... why?

Because stronger threads can compress the skin tighter, giving the skier a more efficient aerodynamic profile.

And that makes enough of a difference to be worth regulating?

Do they regulate the razor blades men use, because a closer cut will reduce friction from the beard?

How about a skier who gets plastic surgery to change his chin? I’ve never heard of such a thing, but if they’re regulate threads used to stitch uniforms ....

Yes.

It's more of a science and technology competition than a sport anymore.

They're testing in wind tunnels to chase hundredths of seconds and centimeters of distance.
