When was your first clue that being a Christian in Syria was not a good idea?

= = =

Actually, being a Christian ANYWHERE is a GOOD idea; better than good, it is Eternally good.

Meanwhile, in Syria being a Christian is like Christians in the New Testament - persued and executed.

I do not wish that for them. Can they escape?

Will this same situation come for me in this ‘safe’ USA?

And yet Christianity survived for 2000 years in Syria, Iraq, and even had a majority in Lebanon - until the mid 20th century. It took the neocons, Bush and especially Obama/Biden, to turn the genocide of Christians into overdrive.

Perhaps they should have recalled Masaada and hired some Jews willing to fight.

There was once a sizable Christian population there. A minority protected along with all the other non-Sunni minorities by the Assad regime (Havez and son Bashar). An absolutely brutal KGB trained police state. But that's what it took to run the place without the slaughter we're seeing now.

I traveled and did business in the region for over thirty years. Actually traveled by Karnak Bus Co. from Amman, across the border, through Damascus, to Aleppo, and back in 1982. Saw the organized piles of rubble that were all that was left of the city of Hama following a revolt by the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood. We had rest stops in the untouched Christian Quarter there.

What's happening now was entirely predictable.
