US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said "the ball is now in Russia's court", speaking in Jeddah after the peace talks.
He echoed the Ukrainian president, calling it a "positive step" in the direction of longer lasting peace, expressing his hope that Moscow will also agree.
Mr Rubio added that his delegation was " going to take the offer" to Russia. He added: "We're going to tell them this is what's on the table, Ukraine is ready to stop shooting and start talking, and now it'll be up to them to say yes or no.
"I hope they're going to say yes, and if they do then I think we made great progress."
He continued: "Every day that goes by, people are bombed, people are hurt on both sides of this conflict. The president wanted this war to end yesterday and the day before.
"This is serious stuff, this is not Mean Girls, this is not some episode of some television show ... The number one goodwill gesture we could see from the Russians is to see the Ukrainian offer and reciprocate it with a yes."
National security adviser Mike Waltz said it's "very clear" Ukraine shares Donald Trump's "determination to end the fighting".

Multiple articles on this have already and recently been posted (at least one by you). Why add yet another — from a trashy British tabloid yet?
After what the Ukes did last night, and after their final rout in Kursk with civilians now free to describe how they were treated, I think the ball may come back like it was slammed into a girl volleyball player by a 6ft trans player
This article references Rubio’s press conference comments on Russia’s next steps.
Russia is only agreeing to ceasefire if Ukraine concedes all of the annexed territory, renounces NATO membership and unless Zelensky is removed as President.
Putin has no choice but to accept President Trump’s ceasefire deal on Thursday.
Putin will make a big mistake if he rejects President Trump’s ceasefire deal on Thursday.
Putin will reject the ceasefire and that will give President Trump the opportunity to up the pressure on Putin. I’d expect the most significant ‘carrots’ offered by the President will not be made public, because they will be extreme.
Trump knew Putin would say nyet to this. And that’s that. See my post here:

Mucusmax is like the GEICO commercial - its what he does.
Putin may accept but with conditions that Ukraine can’t accept (like withdrawing from the areas Russia claims but has not managed to occupy) and see if he can get Trump to agree to those conditions.
Witkoff’s meeting with Putin in Moscow on Thursday will be a tough one.
All and all, the Zelensky government is approaching Yasser Arafat levels of never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Notice that Trump has really backed off his efforts to secure a US backed post war economic aid plan that was deal of the century for the Ukraine.
Hope the Ukraine comes to love their new Party of Davos overlords and their status as neo serfs to New World Order

At least Marco Rubio has figured out that the “Rare Earths” ‘deal’ is mostly just another scam being perpetrated on the American taxpayer.
There is no scenario where the war ends without Ukraine conceding the annexed territory and renouncing involvement with NATO.
Now the trick is to keep the traitorous Brits and Boris Johnson from screwing up the deal.
Putin has all the cards. He will dictate any cease fire.
Trump just shaped Canada silly, I don’t think he’s worried about Putin.
What will maxiumius uspam post on now?
Putin will demand all of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia blasts. So far he has captured Luhansk. So the Ukrainian Army will have to leave other blasts in order to follow the peace deal offered by the Kremlin.
