LONDON (AP) — A cargo ship hit a tanker carrying jet fuel for the American military off the coast of eastern England Monday, setting both vessels on fire and sending fuel pouring into the North Sea.

SNIP

The U.S.-flagged chemical and oil products tanker MV Stena Immaculate was at anchor near the port of Grimsby on Monday morning after sailing from Greece, according to ship-tracking site VesselFinder. The cargo vessel, Portugal-flagged container ship Solong, was sailing from Grangemouth in Scotland to Rotterdam in the Netherlands when it struck the side of the tanker.

Fuel tanker and cargo ship collide

The writer meant to say a cargo ship collided with a tanker at anchor. It's like describing a collision between a drunken driver and a light pole. The light pole was coming straight at me but it was too late to turn away.

Per the above...

“...“It appears that Solong did not slow down or maneuver. It rammed straight into the side of Stena Immaculate,” said maritime historian Sal Mercogliano in a video analyzing the AIS ship tracks...”

Gee, you’d almost think it was deliberate.

I heard that the Solong was traveling at 16 knots when it broad sided the tanker.
Almost sounds intentional.

it appeared the crew of the cargo ship had not been “maintaining a proper lookout by radar”

"Iron Mike"? Cargo vessels, at times, are slow to change course when "Mike" has the conn.

This is in the area where the Finns (was it the Finns?) were refusing to service American fuel tankers.
