Hochul is actually not aggressive enough. The cargo capacity of heavy-duty trucks is limited by the “Gross Vehicle Weight of the truck. Limits on tire capacity and road damage and things like that require highway departments to limit the total weight of trucks allowed on the roads. Yet even when empty, trucks weigh tens of thousands of pounds. This severely limits the cargo carrying capacity of the trucks.

Instead of limiting her demands for “”Zero emission” trucks, she should also be demanding “Zero Weight” trucks. This will nearly double the amount of freight they can carry; it will also improve fuel economy, lengthen tire wear, and reduce all emissions. Nothing but good will come from this.

Your proposal, while interesting, does not go far enough. Given that cargo has weight, the trucks should have NEGATIVE weight to compensate for the cargo.

Of course, this will require that unloaded trucks be tethered down, lest they fly up into the stratosphere.
