Sorry to say it, but a born-again Christian is in a constant tension between the flesh and the Spirit. Romans 7 is famous for that dilemma. Paul concludes Romans 7 by exclaiming: “Oh wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this body of sin?”

Yes, we are new creatures in Christ; but we, like the owner of a new pickup with an old trailer, are still towing a load of garbage. So we still have to “put on the new man” (Ephesians 4) and “be transformed by the renewing of the mind” (Romans 12); and I believe it must be done on a daily basis. That is our job. “Not that I’ve already attained; nevertheless I press on TOWARD the mark of the prize of high calling in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3)
