Baser is a real writer, but he missed on Archie Bunker. The program was such a raving success because so many Americans, men and women alike, identified with Bunker’s populist reaction against the liberal mind virus. Norman Lear, who had intended the opposite, was distraught at what he had done. He had inadvertently tapped into a deep well of discontent.

It did have the opposite effect on me. In my case I remember Archie looking in the phone book for a lawyer, but insisted that the lawyer be Jewish...because they’re the best.
I’ve used a form of that advice for decades now (thanks to Archie) and continue to use it. For example as long as I’m given a choice of a doctor or other professional, I make damn sure that the doctor didn’t get any ‘help’ along the way - which means White or American-educated Asian. Ironically, though, one of the few times that I asked for a referral was for my knee. The guy I asked would be an excellent FReeper (maybe is even here), and he pointed me to black doctor who had replaced his knee. This doctor loved his job and did a perfect repair on me. But...he was getting up in age, so he likely didn’t get much ‘help’ along the way, nor did he need it.
I feel sorry for people like him because I do see others who perform great at work...but it’s next to impossible, now, not to pre-judge people, due to DEI.
Baser=Bawer.

You are right. I remember seeing a guy in the 70’s wearing a T-shirt with Archie Bunker’s image and the caption: “In your heart, you know he’s right.”
Same could be said for John Carpenter’s “They Live”
