Don’t do ‘em. We’re post-pastoral.
;-)
I’m glad that question was asked and answered. I never made that connection.
Who do you think wrote the headline for this Algerian "news?" An Algerian Muslim Trump supporter? < s a r c >
“Have you read the Old Testament?”
No; I never did. Must’ve missed that day in my four years of Seminary.
(BTW - No longer under law — O.T.; now under Grace.)
But why on Ash Wednesday? Shouldn’t a Christian live every day in a state of repentance and humility?
So far, I’ve had at least three different answers as to “why the ashes”?
Dust-to-dust.
Burning palm fronds.
Repentance
Probably a good idea for everyone to get on the same page.
Humility, penance, repentance... you’re getting there. 👍
“Humility, penance, repentance... you’re getting there.”
Penance for what? I never said “penance”.
Don’t need ashes for humility and repentance.
The only ashes I care about are on my closet shelf: Noodles, Ginger, Mel, Fiona, and Duke.
Mine are on the fireplace mantle; Winston & Bentley 🐶🐶
“Penance, penance, penance!”
Don’t fight it, mm.
It is hard for thee to kick against the goad. Acts 26:14 (Douay Rheims)
Well written comment.
And I’d like to chime in if I may.

Which means I took heed of Washington’s Farewell Address when he warned of the “spirit of party”.
I am proud to say that I have never been affiliated with any political party.
When it comes to religion I have attended churches without ever becoming a member.
Today, I am unchurched.
As I was recently rereading Albert Schweitzer’s book The Quest for the Historical Jesus this quote in the preface of the 1950 edition captured my attention.
It is the essence of Protestantism that is a church which does not believe in the church, but Christ.
My point is political parties and churches always seem to get me down.
It’s “the pricks”.
