It's curious that the woman narrating the YouTube video you posted is standing in front of a different version of the painting. There are many differences, the most notable is the missing maid, the very different sky, and the missing butler's handkerchief.

Then there's the derivative Banksy work "Crude Oil (Vettriano)." It was put up for sale by Blink 182 bassist Mark Hoppus, who acquired the painting in 2011. It sold at auction for £4.3 M ($5.4 M). The original was sold to a private bidder at a 2004 auction for £744,500. The Banksy work sold for SIX times what the original sold for just seven years earlier.

Indeed.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Hopper’s images convey a more “isolated” vibe, while Jack’s seem more connected.

But the styles are similar, and BOTH Artists were great storytellers.

Everybody’s tastes are different.

That’s why there are so many different styles in art.

Exquisitely beautiful. Sad about the artist. I still remember when Picasso died in 1973.

Totlly different types of art, but I like them both.

I love Picasso’s Blue Period, but that’s about it. Most of his work left me cool. Maybe reading the autobiography of one of his mistresses when I was young did me in on the man, well before I realized most of them were pretty yuck human beings with their models and it was necessary to look at their work and not at the person. I had Blue Guitarist up on my dorm room wall in college.

I actually prefer his academic work while he was still an art student.

Even though the drawings were standard life studies, there is a foreshadowing of his later sweeping lines, already evident in his work. It may not have even been deliberate.

Blue Guitarist is beautiful too.

I hear you about the character of individuals sometimes tainting our enjoyment of their work.

I find this especially bothersome with Hollywood actors. I can’t enjoy an actor knowing that he hates me and people like me. I just don’t want to put money in their pockets.
