Six reasons to go buy a gun
American Thinker ^ | 2 Mar, 2025 | D. Parker

Roy from the Paul Harrell channel recently produced a short video with very good advice entitled ‘Go Buy A Gun.’

As he outlines in the video, you will want to check with local laws and seek out help if you’re not experienced in such matters. And we have six solid reasons to ‘pull the trigger’ (pardon the pun) on gun ownership.

[Link to video at source]

Here is a summary of his six reasons:

1. All part of being prepared.

Owning a gun is simply a part of being prepared for emergencies. Where it’s better to have something and not need it than to need something and not have it. Firearms are like any other piece of emergency equipment, the same as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, water, and long-term food emergency food supplies. You never know what’s going to happen, so having emergency equipment like firearms puts you in a much better position to survive when the excrement intersects the rotatory air distribution device.

2. Resisting the lies.

We’ve all heard them, ‘It’s easier to buy a gun than to vote’ or ‘It’s easier to buy a gun than buy vegetables.’ Those of us who have gone through the process of buying a gun – but lost it somewhere in a tragic boating accident – know those are complete lies. The infuriating thing is the perpetrators of those lies most likely know this themselves, but they don’t care.

If you’ve never purchased a gun before, you might succumb to that thinking -- at least on a subconscious level – then when someone asks about the issue and you don’t know, you might fall back on the words of the control freak contingent of our society. This is where going through the process yields tremendous benefits for you and everyone else.

Comedian Bill Burr says buy a 22.
(Not the best advice, but pretty funny.)

Yeah, that’s a pick something serious up, with a spare (likely extended) mag and have the wife ready to dial 911.

The next step would be to check the multicam view to see if I can see anyone, improve situational awareness.

The fact remains, I do now live in a gated exurban community that is quite the low-crime haven. But I like being over-prepared.

Here is one reason. People are nuts and you have to protect yourself and your kids.

Firearms are like any other piece of emergency equipment, the same as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, water, and long-term food emergency food supplies.

One way in which firearms differ is the necessity to develop and maintain a degree of skill in their use.

Include training.

Not just for proficiency, but especially for the legal & psychological aftermath.

First aid kits, fire extinguishers, food prep, and water supply all require developing and maintaining skill levels.

Awareness : If you aren't prepared to defend it, ..you don't own it !
Also, if you don't exercise your rights, ..you may not be able to keep it ! So, exercize your rights before they are taken away

The police are only 10 minutes away .. if you can get to a phone, ..and if they aren't busy elsewhere
Another case of rugged individualism

True, but not nearly to the same extent. One can learn to use a fire extinguisher in a minute or two and that knowledge will last for a very long time.

The firearm you buy today will be the firearm the Democrats want to ban tomorrow. After the 1934 gun control bill we were A-OK as no one was going to go after something always our right. Then in 1962 began a massive push for gun control that only got worse.
The lies we have been told over the years...
1962 We ONLY want to register handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1964, We ONLY want to register ALL firearms, not ban them.
1968 We ONLY want to register all guns, and ban the import of foreign Saturday Night Specials, and 5-shot bolt action army surplus rifles! (they got the ban).
1970, We ONLY want to ban small American handguns. Rifles will not be affected!
1976 We ONLY want to ban ALL handguns! Rifles will not be affected!
1981, Actress Lee Grant on Good Morning America (ABC) screams...”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”
1984, they came for the rifles.
1988,Josh Sugarmann, of the National Council to Ban Handguns tells how to ban rifles.

“Assault weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over
fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons
—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine
gun— can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on
these weapons.”
– Josh Sugarmann
Gun owners now know that any time we negotiate with those who want to ban guns, we are up against a stacked deck.
