It is no understatement to say that this was, for Zelensky coming here today, the most critical diplomatic and political moment for him and his country since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago.
This has descended into an extraordinary and unprecedented moment of tension, exploding in the Oval Office.
Basically, a public dressing down of the Ukrainian leader by Donald Trump and Vice-President JD Vance
It began by Vance saying to Zelensky that the war had to be ended through diplomacy.
What kind of diplomacy, Zelensky replied.
He was then accused by the vice-president of being disrespectful.
This then escalated very quickly in those remarkable pictures you have just seen and heard.
Trump and Vance accused Zelensky of being ungrateful for three years of American support, telling him he was in no position to tell the US how it should feel about it.

Z would maximize his stupidity if he showed up on Fox.
Interview is still on.
Interview is still on.
Zelensky said that we aren’t feeling the problems of the war because we have an ocean between us and it, but that in the future we would have problems. It had a feeling like,”nice family you have there, it would be a shame if something bad happened to them.”
I thought the same thing — a veiled threat.
That's a complete load of crap.
The "nice family you have there" comment is when the person making the comment is themselves threatening to order an attack. No honest person with a scintilla of intelligence thought Zelensky was threatening to attack the U.S.. He was predicting that if nobody stopped Russia and aggressors like Russia, sooner or later the U.S. could be threatened by those other nations. He was predicting what others might do -- not threatening to do it himself.
Personally, I think China is watching all of this to see if the U.S. ends up walking away. Because China will quite rightly conclude that if the U.S. and NATO won't support Ukraine against Russia, there is no way in hell we'll lift a finger for Taiwan. Or for anyone else in the Far East after Taiwan goes.
And they'd be right to think that.
