“Avatar” was pretty much the same plot as “The Abyss”
Even the colors were similar.
Avatar2 was a train wreck.

I was a big fan of 3-D television, and was heartbroken when the technology died. I still have a significant library of them I watch, and will do so until I am forced to purchase a new flat screen that is not 3D capable.

So I did watch "Avatar" for the 3D aspect of it, and visually it was interesting, but from a story line perspective:

The Abyss wasn’t great, but it was far better than Avatar. Avatar had cutting-edge special effects with an embarrassingly stupid and childish script. Alien “Indians” who ride alien “horses”, and are nature-worshipping primitives who live inside a giant tree? And they are being victimized by the evil military, who wants to kill them and destroy their tree home so they can take their land and exploit its minerals. Aside from the stunningly simple-minded environmental preaching, the average moviegoer could write a more entertaining and less idiotically on the nose script than that.

Avatar = Halliburton, I mean a nameless corporation, gets the Marine Corps to invade Iraq, I mean Pandora. The invasion is to steal oil, I mean unobtanium. Volunteer Marine veterans are forced to active duty to go fight terrorists, I mean peaceful advanced alien beings. Thankfully elitists from Harvard force the military to embark on a hearts and minds campaign. None of the military’s endeavors are successful, and a vet press-ganged into the Marines is a hero for undermining his unit in favor of the liberal elite viewpoint. Everyone yields to gaia worship, they become one with the earf and live happily ever after in utopia.
