Wouldn’t it be better to leave them up and running and charge people to use them at roughly the same price as we pay for gas at a service station?
Yeah - I agree
Trump’s a businessman.
Since he’s shutting them down, those charging stations likely cost more to maintain than they generate in revenue.
Just convert them (sell them) to Chargepoint or electrify America or EVGo. Let the market operate them.
The expensive part is done- getting high voltage to the charging sites.
*I* don’t get to charge for free, and we had PAY AS YOU GO chargepoints at work (when I was working).
Also in order to recoup costs, you pay $.36 - $.58 per kWh to charge your vehicle. That is 4-5 X what the electricity alone costs. And the faster the charge a available, the more you pay.
No free EV ride on taxpayers. Pay your own way. Like I do!
The Dems tore down parts of the wall and sold wall material at a discount to make it more difficult to re-start these programs. Ditto pipelines.
Tear that crazy shit out by the roots.
I would go further and say they need to pay more.
cost of the electric, cost of upkeep of the charging stations, any permits or inspections annually, repair parts may become hard to get soon, since Trump agenda is to switch country away from EV stuff.
For the number of people using them, it’s a lot of expense.
I agree. The charging station infrastructure is there. Charge a fee for employees to use the stations. Do not build any more stations.
That’s what I was thinking. For private users, they just pay for use. For government users, they just charge whatever account is normally used for such things. It would be similar to a pay-for-use parking garage.
My thought too. Charge for the power at a minimum, charge for the installation and upkeep preferably.
No free power.
That would make the most sense, but I suspect that the government is so inept (or maybe diabolical) that the electricity to charge cars would be “free” and not charged to the car owner. Our daughter’s boyfriend drives a couple miles to the next town to charge his EV for FREE. He brings his bike so he can get home while the car is charging. Then he returns a few hours later to retrieve his fully-charged car.
Install gas stations at fed bldgs?
At places of work people only use them because they are free. Adding a payment system would be more cost and then the fed workers will go back to charging at home where it is cheaper.
That might work, but wouldn’t solve the fireproblem.
