At the time, it was thought that Germany and Japan would tag team and have the Western Hemisphere cornered. If Japan gained the European Colonies in Asia, and Germany and Italy took the British and French colonies in Africa, this would have indeed been the truth, and by 1941, most Americans believed it to the point they were willing to go to war, if need be, but the support for aiding Britain at that time was overwhelming. By that time the only isolationists were the Communists (until Hitler invaded the Soviet Union), and the extremists, like Lindbergh.
The last poll I saw I think was in Nov or Dec 1941 right before Pearl Harbor
