The New York Times ran polls and Americans were 2:1 against involvement in WW2 even when the Nazis were on the march across Europe.


Once the Nazis took France and started bombing England, and also with the increased threat from Japan, that started to change.

I guess but my general point is there are many, many famous patriots who held these views. It was the predominant thinking at the time among the founders. Washington refered to it and there are many other examples but I’m not a historian so I cannot cite them all to you.

hardpsunned mentioned Ike to me today. Another interesting figure and he was the Supreme Allied Commander !

The New York Times loved Hitler because of the peace agreement with the USSR.

As soon as Hitler invaded the Soviet Union, all the communist atheists of Eastern European descent went rabid anti Hitler.
