How do such “Working Girls” make themselves visible in a place like Dubai? Don’t all women have to remain concealed head to toe in one of those sacks (Burkas) whenever they are in public, or are there momentary exceptions?
I wouldn’t expect one of those women to be dressed like Liza Minnelli in New York, NY.
Yeah I know the billion dollar resorts are huge and you dont have to leave them even with everything catered for.
Something different. Friends say it’s good
In the USA, a woman can accuse a man of having raped her over two decades before and if he denies it the US judicial system can order him to pay the woman $85 million.
Dubai is pretty and glitzy. The beaches are nice and the beach clubs are pretty swanky. But yes, one must mind one’s p’s and q’s there. You can enjoy yourself but it’s best not to attract undue attention.
For some reason, there are *lots* of Brits there. They seem drawn to the UAE for some reason. I did enjoy sipping a beer or two with friends while listening to British rock or blues bands (mostly cover stuff) at the western hotel bars there.
Emirates Air is sweet. Even coach class has decent legroom and the food and service are exceptional.
I enjoyed my few short stays there but it’s not really my cup of chai.
I was thinking the same thing. Las Vegas is for people who want to wallow in the gutter. I’ve never found that to be a “light side”.

Your lawyer sends you a bill and you become a criminal.
What a country!

Having been to Dubai three times now, I have to disagree with a lot those statements. There are some restrictions, but they are pretty relaxed with tourists and ex-pats. They like the positive attention. You will see women in bikinis at all the beaches and resorts. On most Friday’s you will see lots of people and families coming in from Saudi, Qatar, etc.. to shed their burkas and have fun.
The real dark side of Dubai, is the migrant slave labor and how they are treated. One night I watched several dozen Indian workers pouring concrete and laying rebar, in a huge lightning storm. There was no work stoppage or alerts. If lightning killed several of them, another dozen would be bussed in from the camps.
Lots of Brits because they advertise heavily here and Emirates their airline has lots of airport connections
RE: The beach. LOL. What is the code? That’s what I would be worried about. You can be locked up if you wore the wrong attire or did something that displeased a guard
Is it worth it... I dont know.
“Las Vegas”
My friend Sharon visited Las Vegas and she said it was an expensive place to visit.
I have friends who are very pro-LGBT but love the UAE where it is illegal.
From 2001 to 2005, it has been the primary shirt sponsor of Chelsea. Since the 2006–07 season, it has been the primary shirt sponsor of Arsenal (2006 to 2028),[51] AC Milan since the 2010–11 season, Real Madrid since the 2013–14 season, Benfica since the 2015–16 season,[52] Olympique Lyonnais since the 2020–21 season,[53] and Étoile du Sahel since the 2023–24 season.[54] It is also the primary shirt sponsor of the New York Cosmos. Emirates is also the title sponsor of the FA Cup, Emirates Cup, and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. It was the primary shirt sponsor of Chelsea from August 2001 until May 2005,[55] Paris Saint-Germain (until May 2019), and Hamburger SV until June 2020.
In the 1960s, Beirut was said to be the best place in the Arab world.
Gambling is a good way to lose a LOT of money.
Almost 1950s America.
I’ve worked with people who had contracts in the ME. With respect to Dubai, all kinds of “illegal” crap goes on there you will never hear about, especially from the upper class. The real crime is not keeping it quiet.
Another project manager of mine did some time in SA. She witnessed a stoning back in the 1980s. She said it was the most disturbing place ever and the men were creepy.
Gambling only pays when you’re winning.
They call it “sportswashing”
I would love to win the lottery....but I can’t bring myself to buy a ticket.
Of course, that never happens here...
“Agreed. Our society could use a bit more piety.”
And more modesty and less drugs and less tolerance for irresponsible behavior.
Maybe the two culture could meet somewhere halfway and come up with something better - like we had in the 50’s.
