I’ve been a NY Ranger fan for 60 years. I played hockey at a high level, I coached hockey at a high level, my kid works for an NHL team. The game is in my veins and will be until I am dead and buried. My father taught me about the game and when I visit the cemetery to see my father and talk with him about the game, I leave a team sweater at his headstone.
I loved the first 10 seconds of the game. Fighting is part of the game and this was arranged ahead of time. It had nothing to do with the booing of our National Anthem (more on that in a minute), but more to do with pumping both teams up. The only surprise was JT Miller trying to punch above his weight class.
Now to the National Anthem. Hockey is a religion. The buildings from which the game is played are our temples. The players are our religious figures and the fans are our worshippers. What the Canadian people did last night was blasphemy. Want to boo a player? Have at it. Want to boo a ref, knock yourself out. But booing a countries National Anthem is about as low as you can get. And the Canadian people should know that and even after the announcer expressing that there needs to be a modicum of respect, the Canadian fans still did it.
I will never lose respect for the game, the players, the refs and the fans who love this sport. But, last night, I lost respect for Canada. Politics had no place in the temple, but they went there anyway. And as the final score indicated, karma truly is a b*tch.
Here is my prediction. The remaining three games are in Boston. The Canadians will be playing there. They will receive the same treatment as the Americans, which I am vehemently opposed to, but it will happen. The following morning Trump will be blamed by the Lame Stream Media on how he incited this violence. Some Democrat will want to impeach Trump for it.
The Boston fans will be out for blood! Canada had to go piss them off! Can’t wait for the rematch!
Remember the Super Chexx table game with the *BOO* button? Great fun :)
