Doesn’t the machine weigh the items and know it wasn’t a $1 battery?

Watch batteries are so light I don’t think they even register as an item by weight. In my experience, when I scan something that light, for instance a greeting card, the machine doesn’t wait for me to bag it before resetting for the next scan. Maybe that’s one reason why she used a watch battery.

Perhaps but then it would be bad coding. It should be programmed to flag if 20 swipes of a 2 oz battery doesn’t equal the weight of jeans and the other items. Maybe some extra weight for bags or a box but still a large cardboard box weighs less than 1 lb. And perhaps the machine doesn’t check the data on how many of those batteries are in stock at that store? Or she’s clever enough to count them first?
