Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee
Tied Special Election Alert (via DLCC.org)

The Pennsylvania House is TIED – a special election will determine chamber control.
If Democrats lose this seat, Republicans will flip the PA House and gain total legislative control to enact their extreme agenda and threaten the livelihoods of millions of Pennsylvanians.
Other than their contribution request and disclaimer, this is the sum total of an email I got from the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a group that claims it purpose is to elect democrats to state legislatures. Several of their emails have featured has beens Kamila Harris, Joe Biden, Obama and other national leaders. They never highlight the actual race they are writing about.
At least this email was on point, but for the fact it is incorrect. They have spent a lot of effort trying to convince these low information contributors that democracy rests on there $7 contribution.
Now the facts:
The Pennsylvania House is not tied. The dems hold a one seat majority.
The Republicans hold a three seat majority in the Senate with this one vacancy.
There are TWO races in Pennsylvania up for a special election.
One is a Senate district held by Ryan Aument (R) resigned on December 31, 2024, to accept a role in U.S. Sen. David McCormick's office. He was unopposed in the 2022 election for a four year term. He trounced his dem opponent in 2018 with a district of slightly different boundaries. The race pits Republican Josh Parsons against Dem East Petersburg mayor, James Andrew Malone and a libertarian. Republicans comprise 53 percent of the district’s 184,527 registered voters, compared to 30 percent for Democrats.
This race will not change control and it will increase the Republican's advantage in the chamber.
The email notes that the Pennsylvania House is TIED which is correct, but they are very unlikely to lose this seat.
The house district referred to in the email became vacant after Matthew Gergely (D) passed away on January 19, 2025 (he was in his 40s). He originally was elected in a special election in 2023 where he got 74% of the vote and reelected in 2024 as the only candidate on the ballot. The district is a gerrymandered mess* just to the southeast of Pittsburgh.
Democrats tapped McKeesport police officer Dan Goughnour as their representative, while Republicans will put White Oak borough councilor Charles Davis on the ballot.
* They actually made an improvement on the previous version.
I suspect the dems will be thumping their chest on March 26 that they turned the tide on democracy, but the facts tell a far different story.
The DLCC will play no factor in this election. They are just milking their low info contributors of money.
Thank you for info. (Funny, your local PA-Harrisburg-Philly-Pittsburgh press aren’t their job either, are they?)

The PAGOP had a shot to take the Supreme Court but failed MISERABLY. I have very little confidence that the PAGOP will pull this seat.
The PA House is currently tied because a D rep passed away last month. After the 2024 general election, the D’s had a one-seat majority.
The deceased D rep was in a safe D district, so the chamber is technically tied right now due to the vacancy.
