My bet is that Russia is talking with China about China's dominance on some rare earths. China doesn't want Ukraine to bring supply to the market. Russia might be asking China how serious they are about it.

All while Trump is Art of the Dealing with Greenland in mind.

That they do not have or control now. I think that is the whole point. The future might be much different than Russia had hoped.
